Get To Know The Real Natasha Romanoff in Black Widow!

While we all know Natasha Romanoff as the butt-kicking, stealthy, Russian Spy turned Avenger, we never really got a chance to dig deep and learn more about her and her life prior to Stark Industries – until now. Black Widow is the semi-origin story we DEFINITELY knew we needed and it did not disappoint.

“Before I worked for S.H.I.E.L.D., I made mistakes, but I’m done running from my past. We have to go back to where it all started. We have unfinished business. One thing’s for sure: it’s going to be a hell of a reunion.”

Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow

The movie is set post Captain America: Civil War with Natasha on the run from Secretary of State, Thaddeus Ross, after breaking the Sokovia Accords. We know she disappears from the Marvel Universe until Avengers: Infinity War, but this movie lets us know what she did during her time in hiding while also giving us a look into who Natasha is and how she became the Black Widow.

From previous movies we’ve gathered that Natasha was trained from a young age as a Russian spy and assassin in the Red Room. We know that after she released the secrets of both S.H.I.E.L.D and HYDRA she also released her own secrets and her VERY red ledger. We’ve seen Natasha as this intelligent, strong, independent woman, however, Black Widow gives us a peek into her heart with a very interesting “family” reunion. Without spoiling much of the movie we learn that Natasha has a little sister who is just as clever, just as strong, however a lot more vulnerable than Natasha appears to be.  Just like any other little sister, Yelena loves to mess around and pester Natasha – especially about her fighter pose (you know the one)!

This movie has girl power at the front and Black Widow is filled with plenty of action to keep you going but it also has its laughable moments

and those that have you wiping away escaped tears. This movie has girl power at the front and center along with a strong message about family and forgiveness. There are some very key takeaways and questions you can ask yourself after watching the movie. You know I always like to give you a few of mine:

  • Family is what you make it. Whether born into,  adopted, or fostered – you get to choose what family means to you.
  • There is always, always, always room for redemption!
  • At some point we all have to stop running from our past and confront it.
  • You can be afraid of fixing a wrong but don’t let that fear keep you from doing what’s right!

Come back to this post on July 9th and let me know how you felt about Black Widow!
