Last Night in Soho

Last Night in Soho was a very interesting psychological “horror”. If you are horror adverse you will be totally fine watching this movie as it is not scary at all. It’s more creepy, thrilling, but scary is not the word I would use to describe it. 

The movie is about 60s obsessed Elouise/Ellie (Thomasin McKenzie), an inspiring Fashion Designer who at times sees the ghost of her mother in the mirror. She gets accepted into the London College of Fashion but after dealing with high school like mean girls and gross men she finds herself renting a room from an older woman with strict rules including, no men in the home. This woman has a particular fondness for her home stating that she wouldn’t sell the house because there were too many memories in it. 

Ellie begins having dreams of a young woman named Sandie (Anya-Taylor Joy),  a fancy entertainer trying to be the next headline act at a fancy London nightclub named Café de Paris. She thinks Sandie has a marvelous life, taking on her persona in the real world, she can’t wait to fall asleep and live out this new and exciting dream. However, all is not how it seems and Ellie realizes this woman is being pimped out by her “love interest” and eventually murdered by him in the same bed she sleeps in. The movie takes an even darker turn as Ellie begins to see ghosts of the men who had their way with Sandie in her everyday life and does everything she can to figure out and bring to justice the person who she believes killed Sandie. 

There are so many plot twists and turns as the movie develops leading up to a great big ending that was worth watching the movie for, so I’m not going to spoil either of them for you.
