Mirabellll your movie review is here!

Encanto is a beautiful portrayal of the Madrigals who live hidden in the mountains of Colombia. Their special Encanto has given everyone in the bloodline – except our good sis Mirabel –  a unique gift. However, when the magic of the Encanto begins to fade Mirabel embarks on a journey that helps everyone discover the TRUE magic they hold inside.  In this colorful world where magic and family intertwine, Encanto reminds us that the greatest enchantment lies within embracing our own extraordinary imperfections.

Best

I loved Encanto so much it’s hard to choose just one thing as the best moment – so I’m not going to!

  • The plot! Mirabel not getting her gift and being shunned as the black sheep of the family ONLY to find out she’s actually the most powerful of them all was….of course how we all predicted the movie was going to end because we no longer have that youthful naivety. However! I still believe the way this story deviled into everyone’s insecurities and helped them uncover who they really are at the core was done perfectly. The writers really put their all into telling a great story and Encanto has become one of my favorite Disney movies OF ALL TIME!
  • The soundtrack! You can always tell when Lin-Manuel Miranda has had a hand in a movie soundtrack. He did his thing on this one ok. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve to this soundtrack. From cleaning up on a Saturday morning to winding down on a Friday night. My vinyl record doesn’t have a speck of dust on it because I play the soundtrack so much.
  • The imagery! It can be hard to mess up animation but trust me – I’ve seen it done. Everything about this movie’s imagery was fantastic. The vibrant colors, the different characters Hues (Latin people come in all different shades and it was depicted so well), the flow and movement in each frame – you can tell that there was a lot of dedication put into making this movie as appealing as possible.

Worst

The way Bruno and Mirabel were treated by their Mother/Grandmother. There is always something special about the black sheep. They are often the ones who hold the most potential and need the most nurturing but because they are different they get shunned and forgotten. There is no way, no one at all even noticed Bruno’s presence in that house. SAD SAD SAD!

Weirdest

DID THE MOTHER/GRANDMOTHER HAVE A GIFT? For someone who was so uptight about Bruno and Mirabel not having a gift motha was operating with nothing either! Yes, I guess she technically was the catalyst for the magic in the family but that’s really not enough for her to be acting the way she was acting!

Even in our darkest moments, there’s light where you least expect it.

Best Red Carpet Look

Stephanie Beatriz (the voice actor behind Mirabel) came dressed for the occasion in a beautiful  Kika Vargas butterfly-embroidered midi dress. What was really special about her look is her choice of Muzo emerald jewelry as an ode to Colombia!

I give Encanto a 5/5. The story, the music, the imagery – all top-tier! I would rank it in the top 5 of every Disney animated movie ever made. I recommend you gather your entire family to watch it because there is a gem for everyone.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on Encato! Leave a comment below and let me know how you experienced the film!
